Pitfalls to Avoid When Using Free Dating Sites

If you're thinking about joining a dating site, and want to do it for free, then you have to beware of certain pitfalls. There are three major drawbacks of signing up for a free dating site instead of a paid dating site. You should weigh the pros and cons involved with going the free route. That will help you decide if the free option is right for you. After you think about it joining a free dating site, you may decide to pull out your wallet and pay a fee.

Free dating sites cost a lot of time.  The number one problem with free dating sites is that there are very few good ones out there.  There are hundreds and maybe even thousands of free dating sites online, but many of them aren’t worth the webpage they were created on.  This is because most free dating sites generally fall into one of three categories. 

The first category is a genuine free dating site, whose owner doesn't regulate.  These sites are easy to spot because there are probably millions of spammers there. These spammers make fake accounts, and use them to send advertisements about certain male enhancement pills.  Since the owner is offering this free service, and doesn't have the resources and money to regulate the site, signing up for one of these means finding yourself knee-deep in spam. 

The second category is similar to the first. Only this time the owner is the one abusing the system.  These free dating sites are actually not dating sites at all, but fake sites created to capture information. Why would anyone want to do that?  Maybe so they can send spam.  Or steal your identity.  Do you want to deal with this hassle?  If you're going to look for a free dating site, then be prepared for this possibility.

The third category is the hopelessly out of date dating site.  Here we have an owner that was honest, and has created a nice interface, but simply hasn't updated the site in two years. You sign up for one of these sites, contact 10 or 20 people, and get no response.  This is because nobody uses this ghost town of a free dating site anymore.

If you're going to be spending your time trying to find free dating sites, unless you have incredible luck, you will probably run into one or all three of these scenarios.  At the least, you'll just lose some time from typing and sending a bunch of useless messages.  At the worst, some con artist will use your information for illegal purposes.
